Eligibility is refreshingly simple compared with the age-banded cards:

Aged 60 or over

Anyone aged 60 or over can buy the card, whether working, retired or semi-retired. There is no upper age limit. You only need to prove your age with a passport, UK or EU driving licence, or EU national ID card.

No birthday-timing trap

Unlike the 16-25 Railcard, there is no rule about buying before a particular birthday. Once you are 60 you stay eligible for life, so a 3-year card is a straightforward saving with no risk of ageing out of it partway through.

The one restriction: weekday mornings around London
